Production starts on the new E-Class Cabriolet
Exciting news! Series production of the new E-Class Cabriolet has started at the Mercedes-Benz plant in Bremen. This open four-seater with a classic fabric soft top will arrive in South Africa in September 2017, completing the new E-Class family range.
“The new E-Class Cabriolet with its wide variety of equipment choices is an outstanding example of the high level of variance that we implement today in our plants. Maximum flexibility is a central success factor in the production strategy of Mercedes-Benz Cars. With its strong team and start-up experience over recent years, the Bremen plant sets standards in the global production network,” says Markus Schäfer, Member of the Divisional Board of Mercedes-Benz Cars, Production and Supply Chain.
“The new E-Class Cabriolets is an impressive product, made by colleagues of an even more impressive team,” says Michael Peters, Chairman of the Mercedes-Benz Works Council in Bremen. “Only their commitment made such a start-up marathon possible, over all new products at the Bremen location, in this short time. We are proud that our very sporting goals have been achieved in the past months. This was possible because everyone involved acted as part of one team.”
In the assembly shop, the new E-Class Cabriolet is produced on the same line as the E-Class Coupé, the C-Class Coupé and the C-Class Cabriolet. The new Cabriolet is the fifth and youngest member of Mercedes-Benz’s E‑Class family, which has been renewed entirely within the space of one year.
When the soft top is up, the E‑Class Cabriolet has a silhouette similar to that of the E‑Class Coupé and displays the same expressive proportions. Suspension that is 15 millimetres lower than that of the Saloon emphasises the luxuriously sporty character of the E-Class Cabriolet.
The fabric soft top is available in the colours dark brown, dark blue, dark red or black. A fully automatic acoustic soft top comes as standard. Derived from the S-Class Cabriolet, the soft top also meets high quality standards in terms of durability and operation. It can be fully opened and closed in 20 seconds when travelling at a speed of up to 50 km/h.
Look out for more info and pricing when the E-Class cabriolet launches locally in September.
