Range Rover recovered after hijacking, thanks to this emergency number
Being the victim of a hijacking in South Africa is something that most of us would like to avoid, but unfortunately, being at the wrong place at the wrong time is sometimes unavoidable.
A financial advisor, whose client had been a victim of a hijacking, wrote to Discovery Insure about his client’s experience and to thank Discovery Insure for their assistance with recovering the hijacked Range Rover.
Good day,
Last night at 19:30 I was called my frantic client, his wife was hijacked at gun point and they stole her Range Rover. He was in such a panic that he could not remember her ID number or vehicle registration.
I was not near my computer so I found the client’s policy number, and called the Discovery Insure emergency number, our local neighbourhood watch and SAPS. The Discovery Insure call centre agent was fantastic and gave me the street no and GPS location. We recovered the vehicle in Eerste River with the help of SAPS.
I went to the scene of the crime and then broke the news that we had recovered the vehicle.
This is the true value of Discovery Insure! Thanks to the call centre agent for his assistance and well done Discovery Insure!
How to avoid becoming a statistic
WOW recommends the following tips to avoid finding yourself in a hijacking situation:
Stay alert
Statistics show that criminals are more likely to target drivers who seem distracted. Don’t let your guard down, especially at intersections and traffic lights. Be aware of your surroundings at all times!
Minimise distraction
Careful planning of the route you need to take to get to your destination is vital. Getting lost, especially at night and when driving alone, makes you vulnerable to potential hijackers on the road.
Keep your distance
When stopping at traffic lights and intersections make sure you leave enough room between you and the car in front of you. This will give you enough space to be able to manoeuvre away from a situation.
Emergency numbers
Every driver should save their necessary emergency numbers to their phone. If you’ve been a victim of a hijacking you’ll need to contact your vehicle insurance company, such as Discovery Insure, as soon as you are able. Timing is key and the sooner you can report the incident the more likely it is that your vehicle could be recovered.
