CT’s half-built bridge to be connected to N1
Most Capetonians have come to know and accept the unfinished hanging bridge on Cape Town’s foreshore freeway.
In fact its primary use as a film location has served purpose to many films and adverts over the years.
According to Capemessenger, Cape Town Mayor Patricia de Lille told reporters that connecting the bridge to a road that runs on to the N1 is part of a five year plan for the city.
The half-built bridge has been hanging in the air since as far back as the 1960s when city planners hoped that a ring road would help re-direct traffic to the city.

By connecting the bridge to the N1, motorists travelling from Green Point will be able to bypass the traffic lights on Buitengracht street and head straight over onto the road that leads to the N1.
De Lille had been speaking to the Cape Town Press Club about her 5 year vision for the city when she said that such projects would help relieve traffic congestion, something that has become a real problem for motorists.
Various studies have shown that the completion of the foreshore bridge would be the solution to Cape Town’s traffic congestion problem, in the city.
