Electric Bentley to spark off in the near future!
Get ready for an all electric Bentley, as the luxury British car manufacturer believes that electric cars will be a big part of the future of the industry!
The first electric Bentley will be in the form of the 4×4 hybrid, ‘Bentayga’. The petrol model of the Bentayga has just been launched, with a vast six-liter W12 engine, 608 ‘First Editions’ are rolling off the production line in Crewe. This number has been chosen as it represents the horsepower behind the powerful engine. Future years will see expanded production of this model.
The codenamed EXP 10, described as the ‘baby’ sports car – boasted a top speed of 320km/h at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year and is expected to rival the best from Aston Martin. Once the final boardroom go ahead is given, this will be the first all electric Bentley.
Bentley’s sales and marketing boss Kevin Rose said:
“We all like the idea. The customers all like the idea.”
Mr Rose, who has previously worked at the headquarters for Bentley’s German parent company, Volkswagen, believes that electric vehicles are the way forward.
“There are things in terms of an electric car that are very Bentley. It’s very quiet. It provides lots of torque. And it’s fast. Electric is very Bentley.”
The electric or hybrid version of the Bentagya SUV has also been promised for the near future. The challenge is to create a zero emissions vehicle that can cover over 500km. The reason for the 500 km range, is because it is seen to many as the point in which people will readily make the move over to battery powered vehicles.
The fully electric Bentley, like the EXP 10 is expected to set you back around R3 million.
