Mother and son escape recalled Ford Kuga
It’s been reported that a mother and her son managed to escape a “fixed” Ford Kuga which caught fire in Durban. According to the Sunday Times the mother pulled over, got her son out of his seat and bolted from the vehicle, before flames engulfed the car.
Sunday Times also reported that the mother had bought a 2014 1,6-litre Ford Kuga, a model affected by the recall, in October 2015.
“In December, when Ford urged owners of the affected models to take them to a dealership for a safety ‘check’, I did that, and when the safety ‘recall’ was announced in January, I took it back for that as well, that month,” said the mother.
While four other 1,6-litre Kugas were reported after catching fire, Ford says that there is no real evidence to suggest that the incidents were related to the reason they were recalled in the first place.
“Four 1,6-litre Kugas, which were modified as part of the carmaker’s mid-January safety recall, to correct a ‘systematic failure’, has been effective. James disagrees.”
