You’ll never guess how much Elvis’ 1967 Cadillac sold for
Elvis Presley’s 1967 Cadillac, the car known as Elvis’ honeymoon car or the car that the couple would drive around in after they got married, was recently sold for $88k (just over R9m).
Elvis purchased this red Caddy on September 15, 1967 and it was the car he drove Priscilla with around Memphis, shortly after they were married. In the last years it was on display in museums. The famous 1967 Cadillac Coupe De Ville was sold at the September 25 Barrett-Jackson auction in Las Vegas.
Before being out for auction, Elvis Presley’s Cadillac Coupe de Ville has been part of Mike L. Moon’s private collection since 1979. It has been on display at the Elvis Presley Museums in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee and Niagara Falls, Canada ever since.
This Cadillac was just one of many cars that Elvis owned. It is reported that Elvis would usually buy new cars especially for their looks, rather for their prices. In a interview in 2007, Joe Espositom, one of the Evis Presley’s close friends, said,
“Elvis had a lot of cars. The first thing that attracted him was the looks of the car. He didn’t care if it was a $5,000 car or a $50,000 car or what brand it was, although he was very partial to American-made cars. He really liked Cadillacs and Lincolns, also some Chryslers. We bought a few foreign cars like the Rolls Royce because it was very prestigious and looked great, a Mercedes limousine and a Ferrari, but mostly his cars were American-made”.
