You will never believe what this bus is powered by!
The first bus to be powered by human waste is now transporting people to and from a the Bristol airport in the UK.
England’s Bath Bus Company began shuttling customers from the city of Bath to Bristol Airport 30 km away, using a 40-seat bus that is powered by human waste and food scraps. The bus is the first of its kind in the UK and can run up to 300 kilometers on a tank.
The BioBus runs off BioMethane, a natural gas extracted from faeces and decomposing food. The Bristol sewage treatment company GenEco says one person produces enough feces and food waste each year to power the bus for 60 km.
The benefits of running vehicles off BioMethane are plenty and worth it. This includes the fact that it’s a sustainable fuel. In addition, it reduces dependence upon traditional fossil fuels. Up to 10 000 passengers are expected to make use of the bus each month, which is a start in cutting down on fuel emissions and the first step into a better, more eco-friendly transport society.
We don’t want to know what those exhaust fumes smell like!
