Pigspotter’s top road safety tips you NEED to know!
Anyone in South Africa who ever cruises the Twitter streets will know Pigspotter, the controversial guy who warns motorists about where police set up speed traps and roadblocks.
Fortunately, WOW had the chance to pick Pigspotter’s brain and ask him a few questions regarding road safety. He describes his twitter handle, @Pigspotter, as the following- ”Let’s help each other expose where cops are trapping & setting up roadblocks daily.”
If the police’s best attempts to improve road safety (roadblocks and speed traps, apparently) are worthy of sabotage, what does he think are the most important safety tips for SA’s most endangered species – aka the motorist?
Picking Pigspotter’s brain regarding road safety was a great opportunity as he spends a great deal of time on the road, and has a lot to do with all factors regarding road safety. Road safety is becoming a big initiative in South Africa, as road-related crimes are forever on the rise, and motorists will do anything to stay safe on the roads.
PIGSPOTTER’S TOP SAFETY TIPS
1. Lock Valuables in the boot. Thats for the ladies. Seriously, a good handbag costs R2000 these days. Would you leave R2000 cash on your seat? Then why do it with your handbags?
2. Remain Vigilant at all times. Day or Night, Urban or City driving. keep watching, all around you, all the time.
3. Try not to use your phone whilst driving, this applies to passengers too. Passengers also get smashed and grabbed whilst chatting on the phone.
4. Wear your seat belts and for God’s sakes buckle your children in too!!! If you love them that is.
5. Keep to the speed limits. Don’t speed in a 60km/h zone but don’t also drive at 25km/h.
6. Keep left, pass right. Its simple, straightforward and been around for years, except NO ONE DOES!
7. Be courteous on the road, no matter how much you want to screw that taxi driver. It’s not worth the dent.
8. Plan ahead. If you’re going to get off at the next offramp, make sure you’re in the correct lane at least 1km beforehand.
9. Watch the road. The cute girl in the car next to you is not going to stop and jump out and give you her number because you waved/smiled at her. You’re going to look like a dweeb as you plant your bonnet under the next guy’s bumper.
10. What I practice at night in city driving, when stopping at robots, park relatively closely to the car on your right, this would make it more difficult to be hijacked.
