Do you think the end of fossil-fueled cars may be sooner than expected?
Most people view the full usage of electric motor cars as a thing of the distant future, however, Professor Michael Wade thinks differently about this concept. He says that the end of fossil-fueled cars may be ‘sooner than expected’.
A few years back, when the Tesla model S was introduced to the USA (not available in SA), it was the only fully electric car with no compromises. However, Wade explains that now, a mere two years later all has changed. He states that Porsche, Cadillac, and Ford are all developing fully electric vehicles to compete with the Model S. The Geneva Auto Show is about to open and many of the major manufacturers will be showcasing prototypes or plans for fully electric or hybrid models. If that wasn’t enough, tech giants like Apple, Samsung, and Google have all announced electric vehicle projects.
Therefore he asks the question if this may be the end of fossil-fueled cars? “I think the answer is yes. Yet, the real answer is ‘sooner than anticipated’. After all, there are solid scientific reasons that fossil fuels are called ‘non-renewable’. However, the reason for the change, I believe, is something much more practical: convenience.”
“Electric cars are simply more convenient than gasoline cars, and will only become more so. My electric car is always full. This is because I plug it in every night. It has no engine, so I have mountains of storage space. I almost never have to take it to the garage, because upgrades/fixes are downloaded overnight.”
If you had the option, would you buy a fully electric vehicle? The end of fossil-fueled cars may be a bit more distant in the future for South Africa than it is for other countries such as the USA, but it might be closer than everyone expected as Professor Michael Wade theorises. Just look at the electric cars that have recently been launched in SA.
