Bellville hijack story a hoax
In the last few weeks there has been a story going around regarding hijack incidents happening in the Bellville area near Cape Town. These hijack incidents reportedly involve the victim being sprayed with a type of chemical which then immobilizes him/her. The viral email that has been sent out reads as follows:
Hi everyone
Please just take note of this.
My husband just phoned me to warn me that one of their clients stopped at a robot in Bellville and opened his window to take a flyer from one of the guys who was handing it out. As soon as he wind down his window, the person sprayed something in his face which immobilized him and the person then hijacked his car.
I don’t have any more details, but please just be careful when you take flyers from someone along the road.
WOW just wants to make everyone aware that we have been in contact with the Bellville police station and crime center, and according to them, there is no evidence regarding any of these incidents. We were also in contact with Capt. Nimb from the Bellville police department, and she advised us that this whole debacle is definitely a hoax.
“They do this every year. They send out emails of different crime natures, and then you can’t trace the email back to the sender,” Capt. Nimb stated. “If you receive this email, please don’t forward it as it is a hoax,” she concluded.
As much as this story may be a hoax it must be said that you still need to be careful at intersections. Always be aware of your surroundings and take note of these anti-hijacking tips.
