5 ROAD SAFETY TIPS YOU NEED TO KNOW THIS WINTER!
Euro NCAP created a five-star road safety rating system to help consumers decide which vehicle meets their safety needs. The more stars the safer the car is deemed, as the rating is based on a combination of tests that the car undergoes.

Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB)
These systems improve road safety by identifying critical situations early and providing the driver with a warning. So effective are these systems that according to a global study, Low Speed AEB technology leads to a 38% reduction in real-world rear-end crashes. Most of these systems use radar, stereo cameras and LIDAR-based technology to identify potential collision situations. Either by warning the driver of an impending collision, or by reducing the speed of the vehicle to avoid impact.
Blind Spot Monitoring
A vehicle’s ‘blind spot’ is just behind and to one side of the vehicle it is overtaking. Many accidents are caused by a vehicle changing lanes unaware of the vehicle in their blind spot. Several manufacturers have developed radar or camera based systems that monitor these blind spots and alert the driver when there is another vehicle there.
Lane Support Systems
Lane Support Systems alert the driver when they unintentionally leave their lane without indication. This helps drivers avoid crossing into oncoming traffic by mistake, or veering off the side of the road onto gravel. This improves road safety by making the driver instantly aware that they need to correct their steering.
Attention Assist
This drowsiness detection sounds an alarm when it detects that a vehicle’s driver may be drowsy – preventing them from falling asleep behind the wheel. This also encourages them to take a break before they fall asleep behind the wheel!
Pre-crash interventions
It is estimated that nearly 5% of all casualties in accidents involving a passenger vehicle could be addressed by pre-crash technology. This could be controlling occupants’ movement during a collision rather than restraining them, or responding to driver’s panicked reactions to prepare for impact.
