Child Safety on South Africa’s roads remains a serious concern
10 October 2017; In line with the launch of National Transport Month this October, Imperial Road Safety have announced that it will be rolling out its famous Car Seats for Kids Campaign in Johannesburg and Pretoria. This year, the brand has partnered with the 947’s Breakfast Club to bring this impactful campaign to market once again, following previous successes in these regions.
“Since we first launched the Car Seats for Kids campaign in 2012, the outpouring of support that we have received from residents in these regions has been overwhelmingly positive. Therefore, launching the campaign again this year, was an easy decision for us and we are excited to see what this year holds,” says Berenice Francis, Group Commercial Executive at Imperial.
During National Transport Month, Imperial aims to continue raising much needed awareness around child safety on South Africa’s roads, which continues to be of serious concern where research indicates that lessthan 7% of children travelling in cars, are being buckled in. Imperial and 947 will strive to counter this issue by encouraging the donation of car seats by the public. These seats are then restored and safety checked by partner, Wheel Well, before being distributed to those families who can’t afford a new one. This distribution hopes to build on the over 8 000 car seats collected through the campaign since its inception.
Says, Peggie Mars, Wheel Well founder: “This time of year is always an exciting one for us at Wheel Well, as this is not only a period where we receive an overflow of donated car seats from the public but, more importantly, it is an opportunity for us, together with Imperial Road Safety, to educate parents around the importance of buckling their children up and, very critically, to do so correctly.”
“Education is a critical pillar of this campaign, and as such, over the coming weeks, together with Wheel Well and 947 we will ensure that parents are empowered around not only the importance of car seats, but also around the correct installation, dependant on a child’s weight,” continues Francis.
Francis adds: “This year’s theme for National Transport Month is “Together, we move South Africa forward” and as a brand, we understand that we cannot achieve our vision of creating safer roads for all, more especially our children, without the support of our partners”.
Imperial have again partnered with their group companies: Hyundai, Renault, KIA and recent partner, Mitsubishi, in the aim of giving consumers easy access to drop-off points and ensuring that anyone, within Johannesburg and Pretoria, can drop off their used car seats at a location that is convenient to them.
Further to this, Imperial have partnered with the 947 as the official media partner, who will support the brand in driving home the message of buckling up and being safe on the roads to their listeners.
“We know that a lot of our listeners are parents and this is a campaign that really resonates with the moms and dads in our audience, who can’t bear to think about the potential trauma that could be inflicted on families who can’t afford car seats,” said 947 station manager, Ravi Naidoo.
As with previous year’s, Imperial Truck Rental have also come on board to manage the day- to -day logistics related to the collection and storage of car seats – a critical part of this campaign’s success.
“Road Safety among our children is a societal issue that impacts families from all backgrounds. We would therefore like to encourage all Johannesburg and Pretoria residents to come out in their numbers to support this worthy initiative, and contribute to fulfilling the need for car seats in South Africa,” concludes Francis.
