We wouldn’t drive on these haunted roads at night. Would you?
We often discuss issues about dangerous roads, but this is another type of dangerous.. (if you see it that way).
Perhaps you’ve heard some of the famous stories about the world’s most haunted roads. One of these roads is Clinton Road in New Jersey. But, this isn’t just your normal type of haunting, its tales of the paranormal are more abnormal and its ghost stories and weird coincidences are more widely reported. The strip of winding asphalt runs through West Milford, between Route 23 and the Warwick Turnpike.
Over the years, the 10-mile-long road has become associated with the New Jersey Devil, ghosts that throw coins at cars, UFOs, druidic and satanic ceremonies and Ku Klux Klan and mafia activities. There have been reports of snow in July and there’s been at least one truly troubling discovery – the body of a frozen mob associate. Now, that is scary!
At least it’s in another country, but don’t relax just yet. We have a few of our own ”haunted roads” right here in SA. One of the most notorious is the Uniondale road in the Western Cape. The story goes that a newly engaged couple were involved in an accident on Easter weekend in 1968, and unfortunately the woman died. Since then she has haunted the road. It is said that the first reported sighting of a ghost matching her description occurred during the Easter weekend of 1976, and since then many other sightings have been reported. All involve a female hitchhiker who is given a lift, then disappears a few kilometers down the road, and some have reported car doors opening and closing, laughter and a chill in the air. Sometimes the smell of apple blossom accompanies her, as the town of Uniondale is known for apple farms.
We would rather stay away from these roads at night!
