“It was one of the worst accidents I’ve ever seen!”
Traffic officials said that a car accident claiming the lives of five adults and two children was among the worst accidents they’d ever seen.
This past weekend (20 March 2016) the driver of a car that had caught fire lost control and overturned between Montagu and Barrydale.
Don’t take chances this Easter
Several news channels reported that the car was allegedly overloaded while other reports claimed that the car had caught fire before overturning.
A surviving adult and a 5 year old boy are under critical care in hospital.
Western Cape Traffic Chief Kenny Africa has urged all motorists to be awake and aware at all times when driving on the busy roads this Easter weekend, to not take chances and to not drink and drive!

According to Eyewitness News the N2, N1 and N7 have been recognized by road safety officials as “high risk zones”.

The Easter Weekend is notorious for a high road accident and death rate.
Traffic officials link accidents to behaviours
“Eighteen people lost their lives between Friday morning and this morning. This is 18 fatalities too many and we don’t want any fatalities on our roads. This shows that there is a behavioural problem among our motorists.” -Provincial traffic chief Kenny Africa.
On Friday (18 March) Minister Dipuo Peters launched the Easter Road Safety Campaign for 2016 in an effort to increase awareness and implementation of the 365 Days Road Safety Programme.
