The how to guide for getting rid of that damp odour in your car
Whether you left your windows open on a rainy day or accidentally spilled any liquid in you car, that damp odour can become very unpleasant, not to mention the mouldy fumes that can be hazardous to your health over a long period of time. So here are our top tips on how to get rid of of that terrible odour:
1. If it is damp or wet on the carpet of the car, take a towel and blot the excess moisture. Then take a blow dryer and aim the blow dryer at this spot inside the car. Allow the hot air to dry up the moisture underneath the seat.
2. If it is the floor mats or any other removable parts of your car that has been affected by the moisture, you can easily just remove them and place them in the dryer with fabric softener or let it fry in the sun.
3. If you don’t have a hair dryer to use, you can turn on the car and set the heater to high. Allow the car to idle for a while to dry out any wet spots.
4. Leave the car door open on sunny days to let all the moisture dry and to let the car air out. The heat from the sun will hopefully evaporate all the excess moisture that you can’t get rid of by yourself.
5. You can use baking soda to sprinkle on the part where there is moisture or mold. Allow the baking soda to seep into the carpet and then vacuum the excess baking soda afterwards.
6. Fill a small bowl with white vinegar. Place the bowl on the floor of your car. Let it sit overnight in the car to further absorb the odor.
7. After drying the designated areas, you can apply an anti-mildew solution, odor absorber, or enzyme cleaner. There are several products available on the market for this purpose.
