Why you should extend your motor warranty
Shopping around for insurance for your car or the right vehicle warranty can be exhausting, especially while you’re trying to compare what each motoring plan does and doesn’t cover.
But it’s important to have a motor warranty that’s not only comprehensive, but that lasts long enough to keep you covered for unexpected incidents that could be extremely costly to repair without a warranty.

Warranty comparisons
According to the latest annual Kinsey report, which provides a list of 35 car parts across 74 vehicles, the price of vehicle parts are alarmingly high.
Hippo.co.za now offers cost and benefit comparisons from a range of providers for extended and pre-owned warranties.
Derek Wilson, Head of the online comparison website, Hippo.co.za, commented, “With consumers already having to tighten their financial belts due to higher rates and daily expenses, it will be rather difficult to fork out repair costs if you are not covered by a Motor Warranty or Service Plan.”
Using the two most common cars owned in South Africa, Volkswagen and Toyota, Hippo.co.za evaluated the cost of some parts covered by a motor warranty, according to the 2015 Kinsey report:
Motor warranties provide us with cover for certain mechanical and electrical components of a vehicle.
The comparison table gives us a good idea of how prices can differ significantly depending on the car and it’s important to bear this in mind when considering what service plan or motor warranty you want.
Difference between extended and pre-owned warranties
An extended warranty provides cover for the components originally covered by the manufacturer while a pre-owned warranty might be better for you if your vehicle’s manufacturer warranty has already expired.
A Pre-owned warranty covers the vehicle until it is 15 years old or has a total kilometer reading of 250 000 from date of first registration, while the extended warranty provides cover for a further 24 months after the manufacturer’s warranty has expired.
There’s nothing worse than breaking down or when something goes wrong with our cars so make you get yourself covered before you have to fork out unexpected amounts to repair your vehicle.
