Road swallows Kia Picanto in Rondebosch
The driver and an elderly passenger of a Kia Picanto managed to escape their vehicle just in time after it went nose-first into a massive sinkhole in Rondebosch East.
The incident occurred at lunch time on Saturday (20 August 2016) and shocked witnesses said that the driver had rushed to help the 61-year-old passenger.
Reports have mentioned that residents had suspected a fault in the road and that one of them was on the phone to the City of Cape Town just as the incident took place.

Motorists have since been advised to avoid the intersection of Gordon and Burchwood road.
Fortunately, no one was injured but the driver and passenger appeared to be in shock while the car continued to sink further underground.
