Range Rover Evoque: We love it…yeah, yeah, yeah

Liverpool is the city commonly associated with The Beatles and, as I drove into this delightful city, I could not help thinking about one of my favourite songs, “She Loves You”.

The chorus of this 1963 song particularly sprang to mind…. “She loves you, yeah, yeah, yeah”. The lyrics obviously refer to human beings but, as I headed towards my hotel for the night, I was falling deeper and deeper in love – not with a human being but with a car.

The car in question was the Range Rover Evoque, which I first witnessed at its world launch mid-2010. To be honest, it was lust at first sight – even before I climbed behind the wheel. Fast forward a year or so and my desire had not tempered – this is honestly one of the most gorgeous cars on the planet.

It looks good from every conceivable angle –  whether one admires the front (characterised by powerful signature graphic in the front running lights, created by innovative LED light-blade technology) or the vehicle’s pert butt. This is not just my opinion – driving through the streets of Liverpool, I could not help but notice everyone stop and stare…

But the Evoque is more than just a pretty face. It offers an enormously refined ride and it smiles on the planet too. This Range Rover sets new standards in the premium compact SUV segment for fuel economy and CO2 emissions, with the front-wheel-drive diesel coupé model capable of an exceptional sub 130 g/km CO2 (for the time being, we’re only getting the four-wheel-drive model).

And it is just oh so comfortable and well put together. We drove it through Wales, through tunnels and even through the harbour (I kid you not; the cars suffered some serious abuse!) and we constantly admired the supreme levels of comfort and the plush interiors.

Oh, and the vehicle’s off-road capabilities? It’s nothing short of amazing. I honestly could not believe our route! I would hesitate to take a hard-core off-roader across some of the terrain that we traversed – and yet the Evoque did not put a foot wrong.

I think this may just be the most perfect car ever invented…
