All you need to know about the Suzuki SX4
The design of the new Suzuki SX4 is centered around three key themes: fuel economy, versatile utility and striking design. The Suzuki SX4 is edgier with sharp character lines that flow from the front bumper along the full length of the body.
They also added a bigger and bolder five-slat grille. The overall length has been increased and the the wheelbase is 100 mm longer. This results in significantly improved cabin space, particularly at the rear, and yet, the SX4 retains a useful 180 mm ground clearance (175 mm on the GLX) which makes it ideal for heading off the beaten track.
The exterior of the SX4 is carried through to the interior design which features an all-new instrument panel and dashboard, which incorporate soft padded surfaces that impart a feeling of expansiveness. Luggage space has been increased substantially from 270 litres to 430 litres, which positions it as the class leader in the crossover segment.
With the launch of the all-new SX4, Suzuki has evolved its renowned four-wheel drive technologies into a new-generation AllGrip system that delivers exceptional driving pleasure, dependable all-wheel drive capability and peace of mind, while also reducing fuel consumption.
Two gearboxes are available on Suzuki’s dynamic crossover, including the proven five-speed manual and the latest version of its continuously variable transmission (CVT), which offers a great combination of acceleration and fuel economy.
The new flexible four-mode four-wheel drive system in the SX4 integrates control of the engine, transmission and electronic stability programme (ESP). ‘Auto’ mode is suited to normal economical driving, with torque shifted to the rear wheels when front wheelspin is detected. ‘Sport’ enables active torque distribution and allocates more torque to the rear wheels to improve cornering performance. The ‘Snow’ setting is designed for all slippery and unpaved surfaces and the ‘lock’ is used for extricating the car from snow, mud or sand.
The range consists of five models, offering a choice of two trims levels (GL and GLX), manual or constantly variable transmissions (CVT), and either two-wheel drive or Suzuki’s innovative AllGrip four-wheel drive system.
The entry-level GL version offers an appreciably high level of standard specification. The list includes cruise control, electric windows front and rear, remote-controlled central locking with built-in immobiliser and alarm, multi-function trip computer and manual air-conditioning. The GL model is equipped with 16-inch alloy rims and the more upmarket GLX features 17-inch polished alloy rims. Externally, the GLX is further distinguished by metallic silver finishes for the front, rear and side protective panels, front fog lamps, roof rails with a metallic finish, and a chrome-accented grille.
The interior features of the GLX includes features such as automatic dual-zone climate control, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, keyless button start system, leather-trimmed three-spoke steering wheel, shift paddles and hands-free phone controls are all part of the standard fare.
The pricing of the Suzuki SX4 includes vat. and a 3year / 90 000km service plan.
