2013 Women’s Car Of The Year
The women of South Africa have voted and Women on Wheels (WOW) is proud to announce the winners of the 2013 WOW Women’s Car of the Year Awards (WCOTY). Over 30 000 votes were cast by readers and combined with the judges’ votes to decide the winning cars in 12 categories.
The winning cars in each category are:
- Budget Buys: Honda Brio
- Value for Money: Chevrolet Aveo Hatch
- Green Cars: Toyota Yaris HSD
- Hatchbacks: Mercedes-Benz A-Class
- Sedans: Lexus GS
- Convertibles: Citroën DS3 Cabrio
- Compact SUVs: Ford Kuga
- Large SUVs: Range Rover Evoque
- Mom’s Taxis: Subaru Forester
- Sports Cars: Jaguar F-Type
- Dream Drives: Nissan GT-R
- Overall Car of the Year: Renault Clio
“We are absolutely thrilled with the participation of our readers in this competition. Because of the volume of votes, these awards are a real-life indicator of South African women’s favourite cars,” says Charleen Clarke, editor of WOW and convener of the WCOTY judging panel. “Each year more readers get involved in voting for their favourite cars, which just goes to show that women are researching and selecting the cars they want to drive. We see precisely the same trend in our drive days for readers. Women are definitely no longer in the back seat when it comes to making vehicle purchasing decisions.”
Together with the reader vote, a select panel of judges added their stamp of approval to this year’s WCOTY. On the panel were Liana Reiners, owner and publisher of Car and Leisure, the Mail & Guardian motor editor Sukasha Singh, former editor of Avusa’s MotorMania Mabuyane Kekana, Wheels24 content producer Janine-Lee Gordon, award-winning motoring journalist Peta Lee, DStv Ignition’s Lindsay Vine and Driving in Heels blogger and managing director Vuyi Jabavu.
