WOW Readers Go Cruising!
The annual WOW Chevrolet Drive Day – a highlight on our readers’ calendars – was a real hit… once again.
This year’s event – the third consecutive Chevrolet Drive Day – kicked off at the luxurious Table Bay Hotel, where the bevy of readers were treated to a fabulous selection of exquisite dishes to tantalise the taste buds. It was, however, infinitely clear that the elegantly-clad ladies were not only there to feast on gourmet delights; they were also looking forward to experiencing the real stars of the day: our line-up of Chevrolet models.
And so, once the group had brushed up on their knowledge of the brand (did you know that the brand was founded in Detroit, in November 1911, by racer Louis Chevrolet and General Motors founder William C. “Billy” Durant, and that it is the world’s fourth-largest automotive brand?), they braved the cold weather and hopped into their first test vehicle. A full array of Chevrolet vehicles was up for grabs – from the funky Spark to the stylish Cruze and versatile Trailblazer – and each reader would get to drive each model.
The WOW and Chevrolet teams conceived a delightful driving route, which took the readers via Table View and Melkbosstrand to Riebeek Kasteel for lunch. But the group also stopped en route – at Kloovenburg, a wine estate, which has garnered a reputation for producing exceptional olives too. The readers were enchanted by the wide range of olive-related products on offer, from sun-ripened olives, tapenade, and fine olive oil to natural olive-based beauty products. Naturally, there were lots of samples for the group to try; the day was, after all, about new experiences.
Then it was off to the grand old Royal Hotel in Riebeek Kasteel for starters in the 150-year-old pub and then a marvellous lunch in front of a roaring fire.
After enjoying the sensational meal (accompanied by liberal portions of chatting and laughter), it was time to head back to the Table Bay Hotel in the fleet of bowtied Chevrolets. The readers were unanimous in their verdict: the Chevrolets deliver iconic style, performance and value. As such, it was hard to get them to part with the keys when they parked the test cars in the parking lot!
The final event of the day was yet another treat – canapés, cocktails and Kloovenburg wine at the Table Bay. Then the readers returned home, with bulging goodie bags and terrific memories.
We have already started planning the next Chevrolet Drive Day – so watch this space!
