2018’s Grammy Award Female Nominees and their cars
Across the globe women are making their power felt like never before. If the Golden Globes’ ‘black carpet’ and moving acceptance speech from Oprah Winfrey is anything to go by, we can expect a slew of entertainment industry awards following suit.
In the world of motoring, femme power is continuing to gain momentum. “Going fast is no longer a ‘men’s only’ pursuit” comments AutoTrader’s Marketing Director, Angelique Lynch. “We see women in countries like the UAE forming luxury and supercar clubs, like the Arabian Gazelles, boldly stepping out to follow their petrol passion. It’s encouraging to see” continues Lynch.
With this year’s Grammy Awards, which took place on February 12th AutoTrader turns the spotlight on the biggest songstresses of 2017 to see which of these influential women’s garages pack a motoring punch.
Lady Gaga is up for Best Pop Solo Performance, and she loves to drive. She counts a McLaren MP4 12C, Audi R8, Porsche Panamera S, Chevy Suburban and once a Rolls Royce Corniche 111 among her smoking collection.

Cardi B is the only woman nominated for Best Rap Performance, and she backs her man-busting talent with a hot wheels collection. She bought a Bentley Bentayga SUV before she had her license to drive, and followed with a Rolls Royce Wraith for fiancé Offset (Kiari Kendrell Cephus).

Best Latin Pop Album nominee Shakira loves to drive, particularly in a Mercedes. She owns the Mercedes-Benz GLK Luxury Crossover SUV and the SKL 250 (among other Mercs), plus the BMW X6. Her beloved SLK 250 retails in SA for R750,000.
Best Country Song nominee Taylor Swift is notorious for her car related antics. She had her image put on an IndyCar at the Detroit races in 2015, and unforgettably destroyed a rare AC Shelby Cobra with a golf club in the video for her love epic Blank Space (luckily, the move was shown to be special effects). The songstress started her motor-owning career with a beautiful Lexus SC430.

Ke$ha (nominated for Best Pop Solo Performance) has her own Cadillac Escalade, and is reported to have used her own 1978 Gold Special Edition Trans Am in her 2012 track ‘Gold Trans Am’ – a legendary car for a smoking song about the power of ‘She’.

“These artists are ripping the lid off of what women are supposed to like when it comes to cars,” said Lynch. “The trend is bold and powerful, a perfect reflection of the world’s changing view on the role of women.”
