3 Cars straight out of memory lane that have modern remakes!
After taking a trip down memory lane, we decided to take a look at three of these cars that have modern remakes! The Mustang, Kombi and Mini Convertible!
“Piling into the old ‘jalopy’ for a family road trip, or cruising through town blaring groovy tunes out of your or your dad’s prized Ford Cortina – now those were the days! With so many old favourites racing their way back onto the scene, we’re taking a trip down memory lane!”
The Ford Mustang V6 2.3 litre EcoBoost
The growl of a Mustang is instantly recognisable and will be straight out of memory lane for some – it’s enough to get fans leaping out of their seats and onto the street! The new Ford Mustang range announced for release in 2016 is the second addition to the Sixth Generation series celebrating Mustang’s fiftieth year of production.
Despite the addition of some trendy new gadgets and streamlined re-design, Ford has managed to maintain Mustang’s old-school charm that fans have come to love, along with the addition of an interactive, voice-activated on-board control system that’s bound to keep tech-savvy speed freaks busy for hours.
The Volkswagen ‘Kombi’ T6 Multivan
Affectionately known to many as the “Kombi”, the Volkswagen Multivan is not just a people-mover made popular during the 60s, but a symbol representing the freedom to move about freely. Families took it on holiday while others painted it psychedelic colours and called it home.
The design of the new T6 may just offer a hat-tip to the design of its predecessor, but it has plenty to offer in the way of comfort and convenience. Spacious enough to fit the whole family and the dog, the Sixth Generation VW Multivan is geared for the open road. Offering a range of modern features including ParkPilot in the front and rear.
An optional extra fully kitted-out kitchen, including a 42 litre fridge, double-top burner and stainless steel sink, make this a home away from home while on a road trip.
Whether you drove one out of choice or financial necessity, speeding through town in a MINI was quite possibly the most fun and economical way to get from A to B. Compact in size and built for practicality, the original design was Sir Alex Issigonis’ response to calls for an affordable run-around that was also low on fuel consumption.
MINI has now introduced of an electronic fabric soft-top, retractable at speeds of up to 30km/h for sunshine and open air on-the-go. The MINI Convertible is also 98mm longer than its predecessor, with a 28mm wheelbase extension that offers 25% more boot space than the old drop-top. The speedometer has also shifted from its iconic position at the centre of the dash to a more ergonomic head-up display behind the steering wheel.
The MINI Connected app lets you know if rain is on the way ahead of time, so you have enough time to close the hood and take cover.
