Electric vehicles charge while driving?
Imagine a world in which you never had to stop to fuel your car – it didn’t even run on fuel! Vehicles that are able to charge while driving on the roads!
Electric vehicles are becoming more and more viable and will certainly be a large part of the future of the automotive industry. One of the main drawbacks that currently exist regarding electric vehicles, is that they have a limited driving range. Meaning they need to be recharged fairly often and finding a place to quickly recharge your vehicle may present difficulties.
More and more infrastructure is being developed – mainly in the form of charging stations. These acting in much the same way that current fuel stations operate. However, there may be an easier and more convenient solution to this problem.

The technology currently exists that would allow one’s electric vehicle to charge while driving . In order to accomplish this, special electromagnetic field generating equipment would need to be buried under all the roads. Through wireless technology – your vehicle would then recharge itself, simply from being on the road!
Highways England is doing a trial run of this system – in order to determine how viable it is. This trial will last 18 months, after which a decision will be made regarding moving the project to public roads.
However, this is not even the first time this technology has seen the light of day! In 2013, the South Korean town of Gumi switched on a 12km route that allowed special buses to be charged while driving – using similar technology.

“Vehicle technologies are advancing at an ever increasing pace and we’re committed to supporting the growth of ultra-low emissions vehicles on England’s motorways and major A roads,”
wrote Highways England chief highways engineer, Mike Wilson.
“The off-road trials of wireless power technology will help to create a more sustainable road network for England and open up new opportunities for businesses that transport goods across the country.”
Fuel price set to drop in September!
The British government is committing £500 million over the next five years in order to remain at the forefront of this technology.
