Firestone visits Vdub Camp Fest 2018
They may not have been the fastest Vdubs in Bela Bela, but thanks to their VIP status, the Firestone Karaoke Kombis raced straight to the front of the queue at this weekend’s VDub Campfest 2018.
This was the #FirestoneKK roadshow’s first visit to Limpopo and its first opportunity to show-case its converted 1972 VW Brasilia kombi to the thousands of VW enthusiasts at the event. The Brasilia was accompanied by Firestone’s new-school 2017 VW Kombi, which is supported by Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles.
The two bright red Volkswagen Kombis caused quite a stir at the event, thanks to their unique Firestone colours and the fact that both kombis have been converted into fully functional karaoke studios.
“Between the two busses, show-goers could choose from over 30 00 karaoke songs. After selecting their favourite, they jumped into the kombi, shut the doors and sang to their heart’s content. Afterwards, they were rewarded with Firestone gifts and a link to their performance on the Internet,” says Patrick Leslie, Brand and Channel Manager at Bridgestone South Africa.
“While many of the VW’s on show were far from standard, it is good to know that our company has Firestone or Bridgestone tyres on offer for every application, whether your primary concern is endurance, fuel economy or performance,” says Leslie.
Like Volkswagen, who has been producing vehicles in South Africa since 1852, Firestone is a South African staple. It’s first tyres rolled of the production line in 1936 and it has remained a proud supporter of locally manufactured vehicles, local motorsport and, through campaigns like #FirestoneLL, local clubs and communities since that time.
This year an estimated 14 000 enthusiasts descended on Forever Resorts in Bela Bela to participate in the Vdub Campfest 2018. More than 100 enthusiasts entered their vehicles in the Show and Shine Challenge, while others competed in events like the sound-pff, dyno runs, the low limbo or just displayed their pride and joy.
Following a successful visit to Bela Bela, the #FirestoneKK crew will head to KwaZulu-Natal for the Splashy Fen Festival, which will be held from 20 March in Underberg.
