SA’s newest cars and what they will cost you
Lately, we’ve had the chance to attend a number of new car launches and while the variety of vehicles we’ve been experiencing includes both new models and facelifts, we thought we’d give our readers a taste of what’s available in South Africa’s new car market…
New BMW X4
The all-new BMW X4 follows the excitement of the new BMW X3 to offer something almost as practical, but with a bit more dynamism. The X4 is now available in South Africa and it is here to continue the success story of the first ever Sports Activity Coupe at the premium end of the mid-size class. We got to experience the new BMW X4 in KZN, where we enjoyed its sporty styling and dynamic handling.
Pricing starts from R843 000.

New Haval H9
Haval South Africa has been taking huge strides in our local SUV market, and now, with the launch of its 7-seater SUV, the Haval H9 is the brand’s first four-wheel drive model to join the range on local shores. After its reveal at the South African Festival of Motoring in September, we then joined Haval for the last leg (Port Elizabeth to Cape Town) of its comprehensive, action-packed Outreach Expedition, in the H9’s comfortable, heavily-specced and functional cabin. We’re excited to see how this newcomer fairs in the local SUV market, with the likes of the Toyota Fortuner and Ford Everest in its segment.
Pricing starts from R 599 900.

New Renault Duster
The new Renault Duster (which was also revealed at the SA Festival of Motoring in August) is here and towards the end of September we headed to Nelspruit to see what this ‘unstoppable SUV’ has to offer. We love how much Renault has done to the Duster’s cabin, offering a much more refined and comfortable experience for driver and passengers. On gravel is where the new Duster really impresses. Even the most stubborn and uneven road surfaces are hardly a challenge, thanks to its enhanced driving dynamics – so if you’re the type of driver who likes to be daring and explore further than the average person, the Duster will most certainly get you there.
Pricing starts from R249 900 for the base model.

New Hyundai Creta and Tucson
The Hyundai Creta and Tucson have both received a refreshed new look, as well as revised gearboxes and a change in line-up. We spent some time in the Cape with both vehicles to enjoy their new designs and subtle changes.
More rugged, off-roader looks, as well as higher ground clearance and a host of safety features are just some of what the updated Creta has to offer.
The new Tucson range in South Africa features seven derivatives, with a choice between three engines – a naturally aspirated 2-litre petrol engine; a turbocharged 1,6-litre petrol engine; and a 2-litre turbocharged diesel – and three specification levels. All derivatives all front-wheel driven.
Pricing starts from R339 900 for the Hyundai Creta and R399 900 for the Hyundai Tucson.
