Ford’s new ‘Captain Planet’ parody. Disgraced or delighted?
Who remembers that kids’ show, Captain Planet, from the early 90’s?
If you’re in or nearing your 30’s you might have been a fan of this cartoon series about a gang of teenagers who’d summon ‘Captain Planet‘ every time Earth needed rescuing.
Ford was given the rights to use segments of the Captain Planet series for a new ad campaign, aimed at promoting Ford’s Focus Electric cars to millennials.
While some have reacted by having a good laugh at the parody, others have been face-palming at it entirely, suggesting that this was a bit of a cheap shot from Ford and a desperate attempt to draw attention to the Ford Focus Electric.
Comments ranged from “Why did you have to remind us of the existence of that show?” to “Ford that’s, ahem, shocking!” and “WTF!?”
Ford revealed the ‘horrible but funny’ advert on Twitter yesterday and for those who’ve never had the unpleasant experience of watching Captain Planet during the quality-deprived era of TV, will have no idea of what exactly is going on.
