What you need to know about the Cape Town Motor Show
WOW chats to Robbie Stammers from the Cape Town Motor Show (CTMS) to find out more about this exciting new event.
Why has a motor show not come to the Mother City sooner?
All the finest cities in the world have one: Frankfurt, Paris, Dubai, New York, just to name a few. So it was only a matter of time before Cape Town, (voted one of the best cities in the world in 2015/16) would finally announce its own national show to rival international counterparts.
It is something we have certainly been keen on doing for a number of years and we felt the time was right to finally get it going.
How successful was the CTMS launch this year?
The CTMS was officially launched in October at a glittering affair at GrandWest Casino and Entertainment World and was attended by members of the SA Guild of Motoring Journalists, other press, celebrities, Motor Industry participants and principles and delegates from both the City of Cape Town and Cape Town Tourism. We had incredible vintage and classic cars there, custom-made bikes and vehicles and all the latest greatest from the new Ford Mustang to Lamborghini, Ferrari and Shelby.
What can be expected at the CTMS?
The inaugural CTMS will take place over the last weekend of January 2017 (27 to 29) at the prestigious GrandWest in association with the City of Cape Town. It promises a weekend of incredible fun with a broad appeal to all car and bike buffs, petrolheads and, in fact, the entire family, with loads of entertainment.
Will the event be catering for everybody or just petrol heads?
Definitely not just for the petrol heads.
Exhibitions will include, multiple world and South African introductions; a complete range of domestic and imported passenger cars, bikes and trucks; sport utility vehicles; and experimental or concept cars. Additionally, attendees will have the opportunity to see numerous accessories and auto-related exhibits, competition vehicles, antique and collector cars, engine modifications (pimped-up rides), Sound-Off Beats competitions, virtual simulations, car wrapping, drifting, a large 4X4 outside area, live music, food trucks and craft beer and much more!
Will there be entertainment for children?
Definitely! Also as it is hosted at Grand West there is a huge area dedicated to the kids where they can play on car and bike simulator games, arcade games, ten-pin bowling and lots more.
Who can exhibit at the CTMS, is there a fee involved?
