2021 Knysna Motor Show cancelled amid resurgence of COVID-19

The Garden Route Motor Club have announced the cancellation of the 2021 Knysna Motor Show, which was scheduled to take place in May.

The event’s organising committee met recently and decided that show could not take place because of the resurgence of COVID-19 over the past two months. The 2020 edition of the event was cancelled due to COVID-19 restrictions, however, a virtual show was held in its place.

“We had hoped that 2021 would start in a more positive way, but unfortunately, with the resurgence of COVID-19 this has not been the case,” said the organising committee in a statement on January 22. “We do not know what 2021 will hold for us.”

Peter Pretorius, the show’s chief organiser, elaborated on the decision to cancel:

“The KMS committee has now had the opportunity to fully evaluate whether to go ahead with the KMS in 2021 or cancel the event. We had to recognise all the uncertainties around COVID-19, and at what stage the vaccination of the public will reach ‘herd immunity’.”

Pretorius made it clear that the event was cancelled completely this year and is not postponed to a later date.

The committee said the sad decision was made in the best interest of all parties involved in organising the event as well as the participants and the public.

The organising committee will direct its attention to planning the 2022 edition of the Knysna Motor Show and further details will be revealed in due course.
