All-new Subaru Outback makes its debut
Subaru South Africa unveiled its all-new MY2021 Subaru Outback as the next step into the future evolution of the SUV wagon that was first developed in 1994.
It is said to be the most capable and safest car in the brand’s history, according to Quickpic. The Outback is offered in two trim levels called the Field and Touring models.
The Outback also boasts a number of new technologies such as Hands-Free Tailgate function, DriverFocus™ Distraction Mitigation System and a slick new 11.6-inch portrait-oriented touchscreen infotainment system.
The new model is 50mm longer and 30mm wider than the previous models in this range. Its features are more dynamic and sharp with larger body panels. The LED headlight units are slimmer and now features the C-shaped lights for both Daytime Running Lights as well as the turn signals.
Infotainment and Driver Monitoring System
An 11.6-inch infotainment screen? Yes, please. Situated in the centre of the dashboard, it features touchscreen functionality and familiar swipe, drag and touch features that would be found on any smart device. It has a built-in navigation system, media, radio, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
2 USB ports are available for front passengers and another 2 are available for rear-seat passengers. The latest generation Harman/Kardon® sound system features 12-speakers in the cabin including a sub-woofer in the cargo area for quality sound. The multi-function displays in the Outback also feature new LCD screens with new graphic layouts.
Derivatives
The Field derivative is more for adventure while the Touring model is a more urban model. Field models have more black and green trim and have 18-inch black metallic alloy wheels, black roof rails with green accent, black door mirror caps, black Outback lettering on the rear and green Outback lettering on the side guards.
The Touring model has silver trim in these areas along with 18-inch aluminium finished alloy wheels.
There are nine new body colours available for the new Subaru Outback: Crystal White Pearl; Ice Silver Metallic; Magnetite Grey Metallic; Crystal Black Silica; Crimson Red Pearl; Dark Blue Pearl; Storm Grey Metallic; Brilliant Bronze Metallic(all-new); Autumn Green Metallic(all new).
Performance
The Subaru Outback Field and Touring derivatives are both powered by a 2.5-litre direct injection Boxer® engine. It delivers a total output of 138 kW with a maximum torque of 245 Nm mated to a lightweight Lineartronic® CVT transmission.
It also features an 8-speed manual mode operated via paddle shifts behind the steering wheel.
