Biden plans to replace US government fleet with EVs

US President Joe Biden has plans to switch out the federal government’s car fleet to electric vehicles (EVs). In 2019, there were 645,000 vehicles in the fleet, according to The General Services Administration.

This comes as part of Biden’s campaign to switch petrol-powered vehicles to American-made EVs.

“The federal government also owns an enormous fleet of vehicles, which we’re going to replace with clean electric vehicles made right here in America, by American workers,” said Biden in a press briefing on Monday, January 25 while announcing his “Buy American” executive order.

The news is especially exciting for EV manufacturers Tesla, Rivian, and Lordstown. Ford and General Motors are busy with multibillion-dollar investments to beef up their EV production, according to The Verge.

The finer details are still being hashed out but this is a major win for the planet and EV manufacturers.

Biden also has plans to offer incentives or rebates to consumers who move to replace petrol cars with electric vehicles. The US president aims to make 1-million automaker jobs.
