Can hackers hack your car?
Every day car-techno is getting better and better, but with the good also comes the bad. Cars stacked with gadgets and electronics might sound great but all this equipment could be the very thing allowing hackers to access your vehicle…
In a report done by CNN, researchers were able to show how they disabled the brakes and took control of the steering wheel by infiltrating the car’s on-board technology.
And this isn’t done with the newest in-car technology- things like Bluetooth, in-car wi-fi, and keyless entry system could all be used as access points. This can happen because it’s connected on the same network as a car’s vital functions such as steering. An example is the Toyota Prius, a car known for its front-running technology. With the Prius the hackers are able to turn the steering wheel as it travelled along at speed.
This does sound pretty scary, but readers should take note that all of this was done while the research hackers were still inside the car. Although, the research does highlight the security flaws of a car’s electronic systems being linked together like a computer’s.
