Car license renewal rush to hit South Africa

The City of Cape Town is expecting a busy couple of months with car license renewals as part of the effect caused by the COVID-19 lockdown and license extensions.
Many South African licenses are due to expire on August 31 and September 2021, therefore the city expects July and August 2021 to be at their peak with renewals.
According to Eminetra, this was all caused by the COVID-19 lockdown extension that was given to drivers whose license expired in March, April and May 2020.
With more than 1.3 million vehicle license renewals done in the past six months, the City of Cape Town urges all motorists to apply online with the e-Services site or practice social distancing at licensing offices and traffic departments.
“We will continue to open and close unplanned offices abruptly to ensure the safety of our staff and customers,” said Ian Neilson, deputy mayor of the city.
“Covid-19 regulations sometimes continue to affect staff complements and continue to experience the intermittent national system problems seen over the past year.”
“These issues affect the city’s service delivery, but unfortunately they are not under our control.”
Motorists are expected to check the expiration date of their licensed disks and start the process of renewal 1-2 months before it expires or within the grace period of the expiry date.
