If you drive a Mercedes-Benz your car might be recalled
Mercedes-Benz is recalling hundreds of thousand of sedans and estates (2013-2015 models) to fix a problem that may cause the engine to ignite. The affected vehicles are CLS 400, CLS 550, CLS63, E350, E400, E400 hybrid, E550 and E63.
This does also affect South African Mercedes-Benz owners, and the recall mostly effects E350 sedans. The automaker says a rubber seal in the back of the engine bay, designed to muffle noises, can stick to the bonnet when it opens.
Mercedes-Benz will start the recall in March 2015. Owners can then take their vehicles to dealers who will fix the issue for free by attaching four additional retaining clips to the seal.
The automaker said: “Under adverse circumstances, it could not be excluded that a portion of the seal could contact hot parts of the engine. We are in the process of rolling out a local recall campaign with around 2200 units affected. Our dealers will contact affected customers accordingly.”
