Driver caught speeding at almost 200 km/h!
Driver caught speeding at 198 km/h in a 120 km/h zone along the N1 over the weekend. This took place in the Brackenfell service area and the driver will be facing a heavy fine and is due to appear in court.
Six road traffic fatalities were reported on the Western Cape roads this weekend. Three of which were passengers, two pedestrians and one driver.
The last weekend saw Western Cape Provincial Traffic Services conduct 21 alcohol blitz roadblocks across the province, stopping a total of 1750 vehicles throughout the weekend.
Out of the vehicles stopped, 1262 drivers were made to take breathalyzer tests, with the highest blood alcohol reading reaching 1.21 mg of alcohol / 1000 ml of blood. This took place in Vredenburg and is five times the legal limit of 0.24 mg / 1000 ml.
In addition to these roadblocks, 8114 vehicles were screened for speeding and 766 speeding offences were recorded. An amount of R202 800 in fines were issued due to these various traffic infringements.
Four other arrests were also reported – one for allegedly assaulting a traffic officer in Knysna; one in connection with false documentation in Somerset West; one in connection with impoundment in Somerset West and one for possession of dagga in Worcester. Suspects are expected to appear in court soon on these charges.
