Driving and road safety lessons to be included in school curriculum
Last week Businesstech reported that the Road Traffic Infringement Agency and the Department of Basic Education have announced a partnership which includes ‘extended driving lessons into high school curriculums’.
This, says Transport Minister Dipuo Peters, is part of a long initiative to improve road safety by enhancing driver-skills.
With a worrying number of unskilled drivers on SA’s roads, we think this is a great initiative to improve the skills of learner drivers and to help avoid accidents and road fatalities.

Businesstech reports that according to Peters, the provision of a driving simulators programme will be implemented during the 2017/8 financial year.
Peters also announced a partnership with the Department of Basic Education to ensure the inclusion of road safety in the curriculum and the training of teachers. The partnership will entail different aspects of road safety awareness aimed to adequately skill new drivers.
“Formal education and training will remain important but we must also broaden our minds and find ways to include road safety messages into the wider curriculum, into mathematics and science, geography and civic education,” Minister Peters said.
From us at WOW we give this initiative a big thumbs up and hope that parents and students will welcome the partnership and get excited about safe driving!
