Drunk driver kills 2! At 23 times over the limit!
In a weekend with over 180 arrests for driving under the influence, a drunk driver was arrested at over 23 times the legal limit. Two died as a result.
The drunk driver is facing charges for killing two pedestrians while driving in this incredibly intoxicated state. What’s scary is that he was just one drunk driver out of 180 that were arrested in one weekend alone, reported the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC). This was in effort to crackdown on payday drunk driving.
The AA urge road users to take accountability for road safety!
“The driver with the highest blood content was arrested in Hebron. He had an alcohol content of 1.16g per 100ml. He was arrested at an accident scene driving at high speed,”
said RTMC spokesman Simon Zwane.
“He tried to avoid the scene and drove the car into pedestrians, killing one on the spot. Another one died in hospital and a third was taken to hospital. He was charged with culpable homicide and drunk driving.”
The blood alcohol legal limit is 0.05g per 100ml.
Spokeswoman of the North West Police, Major Pelonami Makau stated that Patrick Motsepe, 35, appeared in the Ga-Rankuwa Magistrate’s Court on 1 Dec 2015. The drunk driver is facing two charges of culpable homicide and was granted bail of R5000, but he is to appear again in court on 21 January 2015.
Stay safe this holiday season!
These arrests followed the launch of the festive season road safety plan for the last week, which perhaps indicates that not enough is being done at the moment.
Brits, North West Province saw the highest number of arrests, with 27 motorists being held.
“Information from previous collisions has been analysed to guide officers on the areas they should focus on, the days of the week on which crashes are likely to occur and factors contributing to fatalities,”
concluded RTMC spokesman Simon Zwane.
