Finally a system to get bad drivers off our roads!
According to EWN, Transport Minister Dipuo Peters, said that government is in talks to soon introduce a system where metro police officers can randomly stop motorists and retest their driving.
We love this idea! It will rid our roads of people who have a driver’s license but cannot actually drive. And I think we can all agree that there are many of those people on our roads.
The road fatality statistics for the Easter weekend dramatically increased from 193 last year to 287 this year.
More than half a million new drivers have been given licenses since January this year according to the Transport Ministry and Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC).
Howard Dembovsky of Justice Project South Africa said that what is sorely lacking in South Africa is two things; “our enforcement, which doesn’t exist and secondly is evaluation. We keep on trying the same things and they don’t work.”
The mot fatalities recorded over this past weekend were in KZN with 55 followed by Limpopo with 44 and Gauteng with 38. The Western Province recorded 27.
