First all-female racing team competes at European Le Mans Series

The first all-women team to compete in the Le Mans Prototype 2 (LMP2) class in the 2020 European Le Mans Series consists of three fiercely talented drivers.

Katherine Legge, Tatiana Calderón, Sophia Floersch were chosen as the drivers of Swiss luxury watch brand Richard Mille’s racing team at the series by the Women in Motorsport Commission in Navarra, Spain. Legge sustained an injury at a pre-race test drive and was replaced by Beitske Visser.

These pioneers are no strangers to motorsport despite their youth. Floersch was the youngest participating female at the series at 19 years old. Calderón is 27 and Visser 25 years old. All of them had been racing since childhood.

The young team finished strong by ranking in the top 10, and gave an incredible first performance at the 24 Hours of Le Mans race, finishing 13th overall and 9th in the LMP2 class, reports South China Morning Post.

The team drove the Richard Mille Racing Team’s French-built Oreca 07 Gibson.
