Here’s why Ford has a reason to celebrate
Ford had its second-highest all time sales month last month with over 6 000 vehicles sold, an increase of 26% from October 2013, despite challenging market conditions. Year-to-date, Ford sales are up 21.5% compared to Jan – October 2013 versus the industry decline of 1.8%, and Ford has a market share of 12.6%, one of the company’s highest, worldwide.
According to Naamsa, new vehicle sales recorded their second consecutive month of growth, up 4.9% on October last year. Passenger car sales are up 1.6% and Light Commercial Vehicles (LCVs) sales are up 14% year-over-year.
This strong sales month was supported by models across the range – more than a thousand EcoSport and Kuga utility vehicles were sold through the retail channel, indicating continued consumer demand for these fun vehicles.
Sales of the Ford Ranger have more than doubled, year-on-year. A total of 3 045 bakkies were sold in October, compared to 1 516 during the same period last year. This new all-time sales record also marks the first time that Ranger has broken the 3 000 unit mark. Since its launch, 58 196 Rangers have been sold.
“This is a tremendous achievement for Ranger, and a clear statement from customers that they want a high-quality, modern product,” said Crouse. “International demand for Ranger also remains high, as evidenced by 7 072 vehicles being exported in October, to 150 global markets. Ranger exports were also the highest in the industry in October.”
