Foton to enter the South African SUV market next year!
Foton is one of the most successful car manufacturers in China and they are set to make a move into SA’s sports utility vehicle market next year!
They launch with the competitively priced Sauvana, deriving its name from the Spanish word ‘savannah’. Meaning tropical plateau, which emphasises the vehicle’s ability to handle any terrain!
The Sauvana made its debut at the Shanghai Auto Show earlier this year, where it received an overwhelmingly positive reception!
The Sauvana is the first SUV to be powered by the American designed, ‘Cummins’ engine. The same 2.8-litre engine that is currently fitted to Foton’s Tunland range of premium class bakkies.
The Sauvana offers rear-wheel, as well as all-wheel-drive capabilities and there will be options for either 5-speed manual, or 6-speed automatic transmissions.
Foton also plan to add to their existing Tunland range of single cab and double cab bakkies.
The interior is well-equipped and has a high quality appearance. With standard features including:
- Infotainment touchscreen
- Steering wheel-mounted audio and cruise control
- Full plush leather seats
Additional luxury features include the following:
- Keyless entry and starting
- Sunroof
- Automatic Climate Control
- Cruise control
“The Foton brand is making steady progress into the South African vehicle market as we expand the range and we are confident the Sauvana, which will compete in a major segment of the local SUV market, will assist in growing sales volume,”
said Mike Scarth, who is responsible for sales and marketing of Foton passenger and light commercial vehicles in SA.
Foton passenger and light commercial vehicles are distributed in South Africa by a joint venture between Imperial Holdings and Bidvest. With sales and services available at 34 dealerships nationwide.
