If only a Mini had more space, right? Well, it does now!

by Juliet McGuire

June 5, 2014

Just a few weeks ago, the new original Mini was launched in SA, and now for the first time in history this premium brand has extended its model range with an exciting addition of an entire new body- the 5 door Mini!

With the wheelbase expanded by a great deal, it has made the car more spacious. Now there is space for 3 seats at the back of the car and an increased amount of legroom and headroom. Plus, the luggage compartment space is boosted to 278 litres, it’s not huge but it’s at least bigger!

Like the 3-door hatch, the new Mini 5 door demonstrates driving comfort, safety and connectivity; new generation of engines; model-specific suspension settings; premium features including innovative driver assistance systems and the latest Mini Connected services.

The market launch of the new Mini 5-door has four model variants, of which only two will be available in South Africa- no diesel engines for South Africa. The two petrol engines (Mini Cooper and Mini Cooper S) of the new generation are available with Mini TwinPower Turbo Technology- much like the 3-door hatch.

The innovative Mini Driving Modes is also available with the 5-door- the standard setting MID mode, then SPORT and GREEN modes (the green mode lowers the car’s fuel consumption, and therefore the CO2 emissions).

If you do want the Mini 5-door, you have to wait a bit. It is scheduled to go on sale in South Africa in the last quarter of 2014. But we are sure this one is worth the wait!
