Mercedes-AMG GT Driving on Road

Mercedes-Benz began with racing cars and its most recent successor carries this heritage forward, introducing their new Mercedes-AMG GT! Mercedes are aiming to enter into the top-class sports car segment with their second model developed entirely in-house by Mercedes-AMG.

Its front mid-engine concept with transaxle boasts a powerful 4.0-litre V8 biturbo engine, configured in two output ratings – the GT with 340 kW and the GT S with 375 kW.

With a top speed of 310 km/h and taking only 3.8 seconds to reach 100 km/h, the Mercedes-AMG GT is built for the racetrack!

Mercedes-AMG GT Engine

The two models at a glance:

Mercedes-AMG GT

Displacement – 3982cc
Output – 340 kW at 6000 rpm
Max Torque – 600 Nm at 1600-5000 rpm
Fuel consumption – 9.3litres/100 km
CO2 emissions – 219g/km
Kerb weight – 1540kg
Acceleration – 4.0 seconds
Top Speed – 304 km/h

Mercedes-AMG GT S

Displacement – 3982cc
Output – 375 kW at 6250 rpm
Max Torque – 650 Nm at 1750-4750 rpm
Fuel consumption – 9.4litres/100 km
CO2 emissions – 219g/km
Kerb weight – 1570kg
Acceleration – 3.8 seconds
Top Speed – 310 km/h

When it comes to the power transmission of the new GT the Mercedes-AMG engineers rely on a combination of front mid-engine and seven-speed dual clutch transmission in transaxle configuration at the rear axle. The weight distribution of 47% to 53%, front and rear respectively benefits from this configuration of the engine.

Thanks to the larger gear ratio spread of the AMG Speedshift DCT 7-speed sports transmission, the maximum torque of its V8 turbo engine can be used to maximise efficiency. Not only this but it also reaches, “the exacting requirements in terms of everyday practicality, noise level, ride comfort and fuel consumption.”

The GT S comes with even more sophisticated equipment and appointments, including:

  • Instrument cluster with 360-km/h speedometer scale and red colour highlights
  • Performance steering wheel, black nappa leather/DINAMICA microfibre
  • AMG emblem embossed in the centre armrest
