Mercedes plans to launch numerous EVs in 2021

Mercedes-Benz revealed the EQA on Wednesday, a new compact electric SUV. The brand’s plan is to rival Tesla Inc and bring more environmentally-friendly, emission-free vehicles to the Chinese and European markets.

The EQA is the first of many EVs Mercedes plans to launch in 2021, the company said in a video. The car is set to have a range of 426km. EVs are incredible for the environment but are known for not being the best at completing long distance trips without needing charge.

The SUV will launch in Europe in early February. No pricing has been revealed yet for the vehicle.

“With the Mercedes-Benz Concept EQA, our electric initiative is gathering pace: By 2022, Mercedes-Benz Cars will have more than ten all-electric vehicles on the market,” said Dr Dieter Zetsche, CEO of Daimler AG and Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars.

“The electric athlete is equipped with an electric motor on the front and one on the rear axle with a system output of over 200 kW. The handling characteristics can be modified by means of a front-biased or rear-biased torque split of the permanent all-wheel drive. The Concept EQA signals which driving mode was selected with its unique virtual grille,” said the Mercedes-Benz website.
