New 150kW engine boosts the Hyundai Veloster!
The global launch of the Veloster Turbo was the first time Hyundai featured its 1.6-litre GDI engine with high-compression and twin-scroll turbocharger. Generating an impressive 150 kW of power and 265 N.m of torque, quite a step up from the non-turbo version, (103kW and 167 N.m).
The Veloster Turbo marks the direction in which the Hyundai brand is heading: “to produce vehicles with advanced engine and transmission technology that will appeal to car buyers that are looking for an exciting, yet reliable and well-designed auto-mobile.”
In order to handle this extra power, the Veloster Turbo comes paired with a standard six-speed manual transmission. This features a wider gear ratio spread, in order to handle the additional torque output. In addition it also comes with a seven-speed dual clutch transmission (DCT), which can change gears automatically or through driver input.
However, power and performance aren’t the only things that the Veloster Turbo brings to the table – it’s a well equipped hatchback with a variety of luxury features. These include: Gracenote Music Management, leather seats, a Bluetooth sound system and cell phone integration. It also scored exceptionally well in the safety ratings of the Euro NCAP crash tests.
It also features:
- “unique front and rear bumpers,
- fog lights, a new rear spoiler and grille,
- new 18-inch alloy wheels,
- projection headlights with unique LED headlight accents
- and unique LED tail-lights.”
While these new features certainly do “accentuate the car’s eye-catching style,” the Veloster Turbo still keeps the same practical appeal of the original model, thanks to the “innovative 1+2 door design.”
The Veloster Turbo is sold with Hyundai’s 5-year/150 000 km manufacturer’s warranty and roadside assistance; supplemented by a 5 year/90 000 km service plan.
