New 2022 BMW 2 series revealed
The BMW 2 series has been revealed. The new coupe has a long bonnet with kidney grills, and LED headlights. The triangular shaping in the bumpers gives the vehicle a more sportier look. At the rear, it has an integrated spoiler on the boot lid, and 3D-effect LED taillights.
The lineup for the BMW 2 series includes the following: 220i, 220d and M240i. Each derivative will come with an 8-speed automatic transmission as manual transmissions are no longer offered.
A 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbopetrol engine powers the 220i, delivering a total of 135 kW with 300 Nm of torque. According to Cars.Co.Za, next year the 230i will join the pack, using the same engine as the 220i, but will deliver a total of 180 kW with 400 Nm of torque.
The M2 derivative is expected to launch in 2022, so for now, the M240i xDrive is the top of the range model with an AWD (all-wheel-drive) configuration. It is powered by a 3.0-litre inline-six engine, delivering a total of 275 kW with 500 Nm of torque.
Interior
The BMW 2 Series has a 12.3-inch instrument cluster and a 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen that has BMW’s Drive 7 software on it that offers Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. The interior can be personalized with a few extra specs including, electrically adjustable leather sports seats, a heated sports steering wheel, tri-zone climate control, tilt/sliding glass sunroof and a 16-speaker Harman Kardon surround sound system.
The following driver-assist features are available in the new BMW 2 Series, autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control with stop and go function, lane-keeping and steering assists, blind-spot monitoring, front and rear cross-traffic alert, a surround-view camera system, head-up display and BMW’s Drive Recorder system.
The four-cylinder models feature 17- or 18-inch alloys and the M240i features 19-inch M Light wheels. The BMW 2 Series Coupe is expected to make its arrival to South African shores in early 2022.
