Meet Audi’s new S1 ‘Pocket Rocket’
Back in the 1980s, the Audi S1 garnered a legendary reputation- it was the car that would see the brand dominate the World Rally Championship in its day. Now the abbreviation is back¬ but this time as a road-going version.
The introduction of the new Audi S1 represents a definitive milestone in the Audi A1’s history. For the first time, quattro all-wheel drive is offered in the A1, which also represents the first time an all-wheel drive system is offered in the premium A0 segment.
The Audi S1 “pocket rocket” combines great performance with superlative handling. In addition, it’s unique styling and specific “S” model design details ensure that the S1 is instantly recognisable. With performance, handling and design all covered, the new S1range sets a clear benchmark.
Fast, but not so furious when it comes to fuel…
The two-litre engine accelerates the Audi S1 and the S1 sportback from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.8 and 5.9 seconds respectively, on its way to a top speed of 250 km/h. On average the Audi S1 consumes just 7.0 litres of fuel per 100 kilometres, corresponding to an emissions figure of 162 and 166 g/km respectively.
The Audi S1 is instantly recognizable as the flagship model in the A1 family. The xenon plus headlights are all-new, while the LED rear lights come with new, horizontally structured graphics. A host of details- particularly on the front and rear bumper, the side sills and the exhaust system – boast more striking styling. A larger brake master cylinder as well as larger brake discs – 310 millimetres in diameter – ensure excellent deceleration.
The Audi S1 range will be priced as follows, standard with the 5 year/100 000 km Audi Freeway Plan:
• Audi S1 2.0T quattro manual: R 442,000
• Audi S1 Sportback 2.0T quattro manual: R 449,500
