This is what new licence plates will look like next year
South Africa’s Department of Transport has released pictures of what we can expect new licence plates to look like as from next year. The new plates will have to be renewed every 5 years in order to keep them clear and visible.
The new rules for new licence plates are as follows:
- SABS certification below the licence mark of the province
- Four-dimensional bar code with QR code
- The abbreviated name of the manufacturer of the blank number plate
- The unique non-transferable of the blank number plate
The new number plates will be colour-coded according to the vehicle’s primary use:
- Black: public transport vehicles
- Blue: general vehicles and personalised number plates
- Red: government vehicles
- Green: diplomatic vehicles
According to various reports the new licence plates have to include the SA flag on the top left corner, the licence number and mark of the province as well as the name of the province under the SA flag and centered on top of the number plate.
