New licence law for women causes outrage [updated]
[UPDATE]
This is an April Fools joke that brought us girls in the office many laughs!
The South African government has called for all women to apply for a separate vehicle licence to that of men when renewing their motor vehicle licence, as from April 2017.
Female vehicle owners will need to pass a basic driving test and submit relevant documents when applying for their new licence disk.

“The new regulations will require female motorists to undertake a newly structured driving test before applying for their new licence disk. We want to help lower the risk on our roads after proof that women drivers are known to be easily distracted and cause accidents”, said a Traffic Department Spokesperson, Jonathan Vithu.
Apart from driving and parking the driving test is said to focus on other aspects of handling a motor vehicle, such as the importance of not wearing heels, texting or applying make up while driving.
According to the AA 28% of female drivers concede that their partner is a better driver – compared to a mere 7% of men.
Women have taken to social media where they’ve expressed frustration and outrage towards the new law:
Caitlin Jenkins-“I’m so sick of this country and it’s discriminatory ways! If it’s not racism, it’s sexism. Enough is enough!”
Akona Rhamosa-“Wtf!? I’ve never been a part of an accident in my 23 years of driving. My brother and dad have both been in at least 3…women are much safer drivers than men because we are cautious.”
Lilly Davies– “Do they want us to have bumper stickers saying ‘careful women driver on board’ as well? What a joke!”
