Nissan NP300 bakkie to be phased out

Nissan will begin phasing out the NP300 as the new Navara enters the market this year.

In a media conference, Nissan confirmed that the all-new Navara will roll-out in July 2021, after being pushed back due to the COVID-19 restrictions. While this new car will be produced in the country alongside the NP200 and NP300, Nissan plans to phase out the NP300 and stop its production altogether in November 2021.

This means South Africans will only be able to buy the NP200 and Navara new from then onwards.

The NP300 has been serving Nissan well, with its tagline of “African built, African tough”. Offered in two and four-wheel drive it is geared at the farmer/ builder community as a bakkie that can handle anything.

Nissan is consoling those who are sad to see the NP300 go by promising the new Navara will be fitted with best-in-class technology.

“With the new Navara, we once again bring the latest advanced [Nissan Intelligent Mobility] NIM technology that is leading the pickup segment, bringing the best of Japanese technology to ensure enhanced dynamic performance on- and off-road, as well as safety and comfort ushering in a new age of toughness, tech and seamless drives,” explained Stefan Haasbroek, Nissan South Africa Marketing Director in a statement.
